    I don’t have any formal training in photography or writing. I don’t presume to be a professional photographer, nor writer, nor anything like that. I like these things quite a lot, though.<\/p>\n[aesop_image img=”https:\/\/www.alpharamirez.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/goyarrr.jpg” panorama=”off” imgwidth=”100%” align=”center” lightbox=”off” captionposition=”center” revealfx=”inplace” overlay_revealfx=”off” text_float=”off”]\n

    Whatever I may know about photography, I have learned it as I go. Thanks to my curiosity, liking the subject, and having internet and reading tutorials and articles. Also, by reading the camera’s manual when I bought it (RTFM<\/strong><\/strong><\/a>).<\/p>\n

    Whatever I may know about writing, was taught to me by my teacher Gloria<\/strong><\/strong> (“goblins like pickles”<\/em><\/strong>) in the first grade of elementary school.     Nevertheless, some publications have seen photos that I have taken. And they have deemed my work good enough to be shown on their pages.<\/p>\n

    Some others have even thought that whatever I may know about all this, is worthy enough to be transmitted through them. They have allowed me the pleasure of writing twaddle twice or thrice.<\/p>\n

    I don’t make a living out of this. And I don’t know if I will continue to have these opportunities in the future, but what I have achieved makes me happy.<\/p>\n

    Here are some samples of what I’ve attained in that field. I got in not really having set myself to do it in the first place, but I don’t care. It’s been nice!<\/p>\n

    In the magazine\u00a0Airline<\/strong><\/strong><\/em>, published by Ikaros in Japan, they have published materials from me three times. The first time, on issue\u00a0400<\/strong><\/strong>, it was a whole article about my trip to North Korea<\/a>. They published a full article of 6 pages, and lots of photos. I just hope it was properly translated! (Most likely it was).<\/p>\n

    Apparently they liked the article quite a lot.     That magazine has very good quality on its format and materials. It felt very good to see something made by me there, more so, when it was them who contacted me first.<\/p>\n

    Besides, it’s quite nice because it’s published the Japanese traditional way.     The second time I was published in Airline<\/strong><\/strong><\/em> was on issue 407<\/strong><\/strong>. It was an article they made, apparently, about some McDonnell-Douglas<\/strong><\/strong> Aeroplanes, and the impending retirement of the MD-11<\/strong><\/strong> from passenger services.<\/p>\n

    It’s the last wide-body designed by them, and one of my favourite Aeroplanes of all times. When the last flight actually happened, it broke my heart.<\/p>\n

    I had made a flight on the MD-11<\/strong><\/strong> (the one and only) on purpose, just to be able to fly on it. I was in Europe, and having more direct and perhaps cheaper options, I flew Amsterdam-Oranjestad-Willemstad-Medellin.<\/p>\n

    I did it only to be able to fly on the MD-11<\/strong><\/strong> on the Amsterdam to Oranjestad leg, on KLM. They were the only airline that still had passenger flights in that Aeroplane at that time.<\/p>\n

    The third time I was published in Airline<\/strong><\/strong><\/em> was on issue 419<\/strong><\/strong>. It was an article they made, apparently, about Aeroplanes used by heads of state of various countries.<\/p>\n

    I had some photos about this topic lying around, and they used two I took:<\/p>\n

    -One of the Chile Boeing 737-500<\/strong><\/strong>.

    In Germany, GeraMond was making a kind of collectable series of articles of airlines around the world. They called it Das gro\u00dfe Archiv der Airlines<\/strong><\/strong><\/em>, and the editor contacted me about a photo.<\/p>\n

    We talked casually, and I ended up writing the whole article when the turn came for Avianca<\/strong><\/em>.     They published an article of mine of about 4 or 5 pages. The full article was like 8 pages, but some were graphics and tables they added.     Below is my photo used in the Satena<\/strong><\/em> article. In this case, I didn’t write the article, but I helped the person who wrote it with information.     The German Das gro\u00dfe Archiv der Airlines<\/strong><\/strong><\/em> was taken by Key Publishing in the United Kingdom. There, it became Airlines – The Global Collection<\/strong><\/strong><\/em>, and they published the Avianca<\/strong><\/em> article and the photos some time later, now in English.<\/p>\n

    Flap<\/strong><\/strong> <\/em>is a very well-known Brazilian Aviation magazine.     They were having issues finding materials about Colombia.     Our magazine FLAP INTERNATIONAL is the most important Aviation magazine in Latin America.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

    Besides its monthly publication, we also publish two specials every year, one about the Latin American Air Forces (in July) and another one about commercial Aviation (in August) of the same region. Nonetheless and especially in Colombia we still haven’t been able to get a good correspondent which causes us issues including delays in the publication.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

    I am attaching you the samples of the specials of 2010, with the articles about Colombia, so you can form an idea about our work and for you to examine them so you can tell us if you have interest and availability in collaborating with our magazine as our correspondent in Colombia.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

    I accepted, and was their correspondent for about 3 years. From the time they contacted me, until I went to live in Australia.<\/p>\n

    During these 3 years, materials made by me were published several times.     There in Australia, I wasn’t going to have time to keep being the correspondent, and I don’t think I would have been in a position to have updated materials.     They used photos I took for both specials. For the military special, the text was almost fully mine, and they translated it into Portuguese, of course. Also, at times, they would acquire some photos that I wasn’t able to get somewhere else.<\/p>\n

    For the civilian special, I took almost all the photos. The text was mixed, I wrote part, and they wrote part.     He asked for authorisation to use one of my photos in that number’s cover, and we spoke long time about other things.     On Aero International<\/em><\/strong><\/strong>, issue\u00a09\/2013<\/strong><\/strong>, two photos of mine were used.<\/p>\n

    The first one, double-page (so much so that it didn’t fit my scanner and I had to take a photo of it) was of an Etihad<\/strong><\/em> Airbus A340-500<\/strong><\/strong> landing in S\u00e3o Paulo.     Heathrow – From Tents to Terminal 5<\/strong><\/strong><\/em>.     He lived many years close to Heathrow. He combined his engineering knowledge with his passion for Aviation.<\/p>\n

    One day, CNN<\/strong><\/strong> showed a note about Conviasa<\/strong><\/em>, and how “difficult”<\/strong><\/em> it was to get a ticket there. They talked about how that generated “suspicion”<\/strong><\/em> in view of the flight the airline had between Caracas, Damascus, and Tehran.<\/p>\n

    For that note, they used photos of a Conviasa<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0Airbus A340-200<\/strong><\/strong>. That’s the Aeroplane they used on that route. I had taken photos in Rionegro of it.<\/p>\n

    I took a photo of the TV when I was watching the note (as you can see), and the video of the note can be seen below.     ABC News<\/strong><\/strong>\u00a0had a note about an incident in New York with an Aerogal<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0Boeing 767-300<\/strong><\/strong>. I had a photo of that Aeroplane that I had taken in Rionegro, and they asked me for authorisation to use it in the note.<\/p>\n

    The system there works by uploading some of your photos. Then, a group of “screeners”<\/strong><\/em> reviews them, and decides whether they’re published or not.<\/p>\n

    The system is polemic somehow. I keep participating, my photos are still there, and I don’t intend on removing them.     Nonetheless, in these years of being there, photos that I have taken have been chosen as the day’s top 1. This can be either by views, or by votes from the other photographers.<\/p>\n

    Jetphotos.net<\/strong><\/strong> is another one of the well-known sites of Aviation photography (“spotting”<\/strong><\/em>), it started not too far from Airliners.net.     Those who know me are well aware that I like Soviet, Russian and Ukrainian Aviation very much. The book Jetliners of the Red Star<\/strong><\/strong><\/em> written by Charles Kennedy<\/strong> <\/em>shows the history of passenger jets in the Soviet Union, a topic I’m fully interested in.<\/p>\n\n\n[aesop_image img=”https:\/\/www.alpharamirez.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/rossii1.jpg” panorama=”off” imgwidth=”100%” credit=”Ram\u00edrez.” alt=”Jetliners of the Red Star” align=”center” lightbox=”off” captionsrc=”custom” caption=”My photo in Jetliners of the Red Star, page 140.” captionposition=”center” revealfx=”inplace” overlay_revealfx=”off” text_float=”off”]\n

    In the chapter concerning the Tupolev 204<\/strong><\/strong>, they used a photo I took of a Cubana<\/strong><\/em> Tu-204<\/strong><\/strong> freighter. I took the photo in Quito, Ecuador, and I love the fact that it’s on that book.<\/p>\n
